There is no single gadget that’s generating more hype and speculation in 2011 as the iPhone 5. And a big reason for that is that Apple doesn’t pump out new phones every other Tuesday like some of its Android competitors. Between all the rumors, supposed leaks, and other reports related to the iPhone 5’s features and design, a picture has emerged of a smartphone that should easily take on whatever the Google camp has in store (including the Galaxy SII and Nexus Prime).
So what should you expect and, more important, is there any real consensus out there? Here’s everything we (think we) know so far about Apple’s next blockbuster.
When Will the iPhone 5 Go On Sale? And for Which Carriers?
At first industry insiders had September 7th pegged for an iPhone 5 launch. The latest rumor has Apple taking pre-order for the device on Sept. 30th, with an official launch scheduled for Oct. 7th. The company will likely spill all the details during a late September launch event, but all of this timing could change.
The juiciest rumor, courtesy of the Wall Street Journal, has the iPhone 5 heading not just to AT&T and Verizon Wireless but also to Sprint. This lends weight to the thinking that the device will be 3G only, which would be a bummer.
